Retired Indian Air Force officer arrested for spying for Pakistan

Kulendra Sharma was working as a junior warrant officer at Tezpur Air Force Station.
Police have arrested a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) officer on charges of spying for Pakistan. The arrested former IAF officer has been identified as Kulendra Sharma. He was arrested from Tezpur in the northeastern state of Assam on Friday night. He is a resident of Patiya area of Tezpur city. He was arrested after a long period of surveillance and preliminary investigation, the police said.
An Indian police source said that the arrested Kulendra Sharma was allegedly in touch with people associated with a Pakistani intelligence agency and was providing sensitive information to them. Some suspicious information was also recovered from his mobile phone and laptop. However, it is believed that some data was deleted before his arrest.
Deputy Superintendent of Police of Assam's Sonitpur district, Harichara Bhumij, said that the police strongly suspect Kulendra Sharma's Pakistan connection. However, it cannot be said for sure until the investigation is completed.
Police said that during his service in the Indian Air Force, Kulendra Sharma was working as a junior warrant officer at the Tezpur Air Force Station. The base has a squadron of Sukhoi-30 fighter jets and important military installations. He retired from the Air Force in 2002. Later, he also worked at Tezpur University for a short time.
Police sources said that a case has been registered against Kulendra Sharma under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police also said that he will be produced in court on Saturday.
