Resignation wave in the Israeli army.
The occupying Israeli military (IDF) is in deep crisis. About 600 officers and non-commissioned officers have recently submitted their resignations due to financial discontent. The country's Supreme Court has suspended the 'Chief of Staff Increases', known as the military's financial benefits. This wave of resignations has appeared. Al Mayadeen reports.
The Lebanese-based Al Mayadeen reported, citing the Israeli media Israel Hayom, that most of the officers who submitted their resignations are over 42 years old. They are trying to leave the force before the end of the month, because the decision to suspend financial benefits will take effect from that time.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to be calling an emergency meeting to assess and control the situation in the face of growing pressure. The Israel Hayom report said that the military leadership initially tried to distance itself from the controversy because the soldiers were under excessive pressure during the war in Gaza. But the situation has become more complicated after the court ruling.
The lack of financial security has led to deep resentment among soldiers. Many are now speaking openly about their uncertainty about their future. Officials admit that emergency measures such as grants, housing assistance and family support programs have failed to prevent resignations, despite the fact that they have been given them.
They warn that the rate of resignations among middle and senior officers, considered the backbone of the military, could increase further if the problem is not addressed quickly.
Retired soldiers used to receive an additional 2,500 shekels per month through the “Chief of Staff Increases.”
