‘India aware of verdict on Sheikh Hasina’

The International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. A statement was made on the website of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs after the verdict was announced on Monday (November 17).
The statement said that India is aware of the verdict pronounced by the ‘International Crimes Tribunal’ of Bangladesh against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
It further said, ‘As a close neighbor, India is committed to protecting the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including peace, democracy, inclusion and stability in Bangladesh. We will engage constructively with all stakeholders to achieve this goal.’
It is worth noting that the International Crimes Tribunal has sentenced ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death in a case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising. In addition, the tribunal has sentenced former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death.
In its verdict, the tribunal said that the guilt of three accused including Sheikh Hasina has been proven. Sheikh Hasina has been sentenced to death on two charges. Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has been sentenced to death on one charge. Former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun has been sentenced to five years in prison for being an approver (royal witness).
The three-member Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder announced the verdict. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
This is the first case filed in the case of crimes against humanity, including murders during the mass uprising, the verdict of which was given today.
