Voting has officially begun in the midterm elections for the House of Representatives and Senate of the United States Congress. Voting began first in the eastern state of Vermont at 5 a.m. local time on Tuesday (November 3).
The BBC says that the voting process began in the eastern US state of Vermont, with polling stations opening first at 5 am local time (4 pm Bangladesh time).
Voting is then scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. in the eastern coastal states of the country, including New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut, Kentucky and Maine. Other states will also open their centers in phases according to their own local schedules.
A large number of registered voters have already exercised their right to vote through mail-in ballots and advance voting.
Voting is underway in each of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress, in the ongoing midterm elections. In addition, 35 of the 100 seats in the upper house of the Senate and the results of the governorship elections in 36 states of the country will be finalized in today's voting.
President Donald Trump's Republican Party currently holds a majority in both houses of the US Congress. According to political analysts, the outcome of this midterm election will determine the Trump administration's ability to make decisions and implement administrative policies for the next two years.
That is why this election has emerged as a very sensitive test for both the Democrats and Republicans. The official counting process will begin at the centers as soon as the voting ends.
