US President Donald Trump made big comments about Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, who took refuge in the United States after his defeat in the Brazilian presidential election. He said that Flavio can stay in the United States as long as he wants. However, Trump also clarified that there is no plan of meeting with him for now.

He said this while facing reporters at his Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday (October 31) local time. Flavio lost to current president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the second round of the Brazilian presidential election on October 25. Then he left Brazil at the beginning of this week and went to the United States.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira are set to meet again in the coming weeks. Before this, the two had a brief talk on the sidelines of the meeting of the foreign ministers of the G20 member countries in Atlanta on Saturday. Rubio organized the meeting.

The summit of G20 heads of state is scheduled to be held in Miami next December. Before that, it is known that the foreign ministers of the two countries can sit for talks again.

The meeting is seen as a possible sign of thawing of relations after long-standing tensions between the two countries.

Flavio Bolsonaro's political future has been questioned after his defeat in the Brazilian election. There has also been speculation about whether the Trump administration will support his political ambitions.

But a U.S. official and another person familiar with the matter told Reuters that while Flavio has been allowed to enter the United States, Trump has not yet decided whether to endorse his political plans.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio said that the US government had no direct role in Flavio's departure from Brazil. In his words, "the US government was not directly involved in any of the steps that led to Bolsonaro leaving Brazil."
