Why did Trump look for Melania during his speech at the UN?

US President Donald Trump suddenly started looking for his wife Melania Trump during his formal address to the United Nations General Assembly. He asked from the stage, "Where is our First Lady?" Then, when the camera panned to Melania, who was in the audience, he smiled and waved.

Trump was addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday (September 22). At one point in his speech, he praised Melania's humanitarian work and highlighted her efforts to reunite children separated from their families due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Trump said, "Where is our First Lady? She must be somewhere around here." He then thanked Melania. When Melania was caught on camera, he smiled and waved.

In his speech, Trump said Melania is working to return children displaced by the conflict in Russia and Ukraine to their families.

According to the White House, Melania has reunited 34 children with their families as of August. Trump also said that Melania chaired a meeting of the United Nations Security Council this year.

Trump also mentioned another of Melania's initiatives, "Fostering the Future Together," a global alliance working on children's education, technology opportunities, and online safety, launched at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly session.

On September 22, the White House said Melania met with members of the coalition again during this year's UN session. According to the White House, 57 countries are currently participating. In addition, new technology partnerships were announced with RadioBee, Amazon, Intel, Starlink, Google and Zoom.
