US forces resume strikes on Iran, says Trump

The US Air Force has resumed military operations in Iran within 24 hours of the attack on two Saudi Arabian tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

The attack began at 10pm Bangladesh time on Tuesday (September 1). 

US President Donald Trump himself confirmed the attack. In a message posted on his social media account Truth Social on Tuesday, President Trump said that US forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets today (Tuesday) at 12:00 noon Eastern Time (10:00 PM Bangladesh time). The IRGC has recently attacked commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and in the Middle East. The operation is being conducted in response to those attacks.

It is worth noting that two Saudi oil supertankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz late on Monday (August 31). The two tankers were carrying two million barrels of crude oil. 

The previous day, on Sunday, the IRGC had fired missiles at two US air bases in Jordan. However, the IRGC missiles were unable to hit their targets due to the active air defense system. 

However, the IRGC fired missiles at Jordan on Saturday night after the US Air Force destroyed several IRGC missile launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Saturday's attack brought the United States and Iran back into military conflict after more than a month. However, President Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House on Monday that the United States would take "limited" military action against Iran. 

"They've lost their navy, they've lost their air force. Their surveillance assets are almost completely destroyed. That doesn't mean we won't hit them. But our actions this time will be very limited," Trump said in the Oval Office on Monday.
