US Army Secretary Driscoll resigns

US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned, according to a report in the US media outlet The Wall Street Journal.

Driscoll's resignation comes amid months of tension with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who has been at odds with him over the removal of several top generals in the US military and a controversial move to reduce the number of high-ranking generals.

Driscoll was expected to leave office by the end of this year, but the White House praised his work after his resignation.

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said Driscoll had played a "very effective role" in the Department of the Army in implementing President Donald Trump's "Make America Strong Again" program.

He said, "Driscoll has made important contributions in various areas, including leading the conduct of historic military operations, increasing the importance of the army's readiness and combat capabilities, and facilitating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine."

Anna Kelly added, "Driscoll's contributions, working with the President and the Secretary of Defense, have made the US military stronger than ever before."
