Trump hints at increasing economic pressure on Iran

US President Donald Trump recently hinted in an interview with Axios that he is going to adopt a strategy of increasing economic pressure on Iran rather than taking any new military action at the moment.

Regarding the ongoing US strategy against Iran, Trump said, “We are not talking too much about it right now.”

He said that the US administration is continuing “partial or semi-negotiations” with Tehran and at the same time is closely monitoring Iran’s dire economic situation.

Highlighting Iran’s internal crisis, Trump said, “We are just watching how Iran is going through their skyrocketing inflation and severe financial crisis. He claimed that Iran is currently in a very fragile economic situation and they are also struggling to pay their military personnel.

The US president also said that the effective blockade by the US Navy at sea has increased the pressure on the Iranian government, which has further intensified their ongoing economic crisis.

Regarding the economic impact of the conflict on Americans, Trump said that the financial impact on American citizens has eased a lot as the price of crude oil in the world market has fallen to just above $75 per barrel.
Expressing his confident attitude regarding the tense US-Tehran standoff, Trump said, "Everything will be fine. There is always a solution to everything. It's basically like a game of chess."
