World record-breaking ‘Baby Shark’ child debuts as a singer

The popular child artist of the most-watched video ‘Baby Shark’ in YouTube history is now going to debut as a singer in the K-pop world. Baby Shark’s production company ‘The Pinkfong Company’ has confirmed that his first solo song will be released on August 20.

South Korea’s global family entertainment company Pinkfong announced that Park Gun-Rung (17), known as ‘Baby Shark Boy’, is going to release his debut Korean song ‘Wave’. Park himself was involved in the song as a lyricist and it features Joohyun of the popular K-pop band ‘Monsta X’.

Incidentally, Park Gun-Rung gained worldwide recognition in 2016 by starring in the ‘Baby Shark Dance’ video. Currently, the video has gained more than 17.2 billion views and has occupied the number one spot on YouTube for 69 consecutive months. Park's appearance in the short-form videos created to mark the song's 10th anniversary last year was met with renewed enthusiasm, garnering nearly 22 million views.

In a statement, Park said, "I'm always grateful that people still remember my childhood performance. Ten years ago, I danced alongside Baby Shark, and now I want to tell my own story with my own voice. I'm so happy to start this new journey with those who have remembered me for so long."

A representative for Pinkfong said, "This is not just about bringing back the boy from the past, but also an honest attempt to tell his own story." In addition, Pinkfong is signaling its move from a children's entertainment brand to the international K-pop industry.

However, in an interview with The Korea Herald, the company clarified that this is not a long-term debut like typical K-pop idols, but a special one-time project.

The company said that further decisions about his future work will be made after the song is released.
