After a new video went viral online, in which US President Donald Trump comments on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's political career, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal faced questions from reporters.
At Thursday's weekly press briefing, Jaiswal said that he had not seen the video yet. "I have not seen the video. If there is such a video, whether it is real or fake, we will take appropriate action," he said.
The video that is being discussed so much is said to be from October last year, according to several Indian media outlets. At that time, Trump was present at a press conference with the director of the US intelligence agency FBI.
There, he praised Modi and said, "He is a wonderful person. (Narendra) Modi is a wonderful person, he likes me. I don't know if the word 'like' is right, but I don't want you to take it any other way. I don't want to end his political career, but you have to understand, I have been watching India for many years. My friend has been there for many years.’
After Trump’s comments, reporters asked the Foreign Ministry spokesperson for a response, and Jaiswal said that “appropriate action will be taken” in this regard.
He was also asked about trade and bilateral relations between Russia and India today. Jaiswal said, “There is ongoing dialogue and cooperation between Russia and India in various fields, including trade, culture, people-to-people relations and defense cooperation. This relationship will become stronger in the future.”
