After the intense tensions, US President Donald Trump has softened his tone on the Iran issue. He thanked the country, claiming that it has reversed its decision to execute protesters in Iran.
In a post on his social media account Truth Social on Friday (January 16), Trump wrote, 'The executions that were supposed to be carried out yesterday have been canceled by the Iranian leadership. Thank you!'
Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that four Gulf countries had requested Trump not to attack Iran. While leaving the White House for a weekend vacation in Florida, Trump denied this news and told reporters, 'Nobody convinced me; I convinced myself.'
He also said, 'They (Iran) did not execute anyone. They canceled the execution orders. This played a major role (in not attacking).’
Earlier, on Thursday (January 15), the White House said that Iranian authorities had ‘postponed’ the execution of 800 death sentences. At the same time, it was also reported that Washington was ‘closely monitoring’ the situation.
Trump has repeatedly pledged to stand by the Iranian protesters. He claims that thousands of people have been killed in the country as a result of the authorities’ crackdown. Although the exact number of these casualties is not yet known. Although several US-based human rights organizations regularly update the number of casualties, there are questions about the reliability of their information.
On the other hand, Iranian officials have accused the US and Israel of inciting and supporting the protesters from the beginning. The country’s Chief Justice Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ajei directly called the protesters friends of the US and Israel.
