Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min has announced that he will leave the club this summer, ending a remarkable 10-year spell with the North London side.

The 33-year-old South Korean forward, whose contract runs until 2026, revealed his decision during a press conference on Saturday ahead of Spurs’ pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul.

“I have decided to leave the team this summer,” Son said.

“It was one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever made in my football career. Playing for one club for 10 years is something I’m incredibly proud of. I gave my all to the team every single day — on and off the pitch.”

Son, who joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, played a pivotal role in delivering the club’s first major trophy in 17 years, when Spurs defeated Manchester United in the Europa League final in May.

Though he did not disclose his next destination, British media reports suggest Son is being linked with a potential move to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.

Son leaves Tottenham with an impressive record: 454 appearances and 173 goals, including winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021–22 season.

“It was the place where I grew a lot as a football player and as a person, so I have a very grateful heart,” he said.

Spurs manager Thomas Frank paid tribute, calling Son “a true Spurs legend in every aspect.”

“It’s never easy to find the perfect time for such a departure, but I believe this is it — going out on a high,” Frank said.
