Peru, a South American country, has won the "World Cup of Breakfasts", an online viral competition organised by Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos.

In the contest, Peru’s famous breakfast, pan con chicharrón — a dish resembling a burger made from salted meat of a specific animal — narrowly defeated Venezuela’s reina pepiada arepa, a Venezuelan-style chicken, avocado and mayonnaise sandwich.

Peru received nearly 12.8 million likes in the final vote on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Shorts, while Venezuela’s dish was favoured by 12.6 million.

The competition featured 16 countries, including the United States, Spain, Mexico, Ecuador and Japan. The winning dish, a classic Peruvian Sunday street breakfast, includes fried salted meat, sweet potato, onion sauce and French-style bread.

Ibai Llanos, one of the world’s most influential streamers, promised to travel to Lima, Peru’s capital, to present the golden frying pan trophy to the winners.

The victory sparked celebrations across Peru. President Dina Boluarte congratulated the nation, and the Ministry of Transport and Communications declared on social media that Peru offers the world’s best breakfast.
