Zidane set a record that had not been achieved in 32 years

Zinedine Zidane is set to make a memorable start as a coach, just as he had a great start as a footballer. He has carved out a rare place in the country's football history by taking charge as France's new coach.

France beat Belgium 1-0 in their second Nations League group match on Monday. Zidane set a new record with this victory. According to statistics from Stats Foot, he is the fourth coach to win his first two official matches after taking charge of France. Previously, this feat was achieved by Henri Guerin (1964), Henri Michel (1984) and Aimé Jacques (1994). No new coach has been able to do this in 32 years.

Zidane won his first match as Didier Deschamps' replacement. France won their first group match against Turkey 1-0. France will play Italy in their third group match on October 2.

Deschamps' coaching career did not start off on a winning note. Under his leadership, France reached the finals of two of the last three World Cups and won the tournament once. But he drew 0-0 in his first friendly against Uruguay in August 2012.
