Buttler’s name in the 10,000-run club

Jos Buttler achieved a new milestone with the bat in the second ODI of the series against Sri Lanka in Leeds. The wicketkeeper-batsman became the first England batsman to reach 10,000 runs in both ODI and T20I formats - the white-ball format.

Buttler played a blistering innings of 69 runs off 49 balls, including 5 fours and as many sixes. The English captain, who batted at a strike rate of 140.82, eventually retired heartbroken and left the field.

England, however, could not paint this personally memorable match as a team success. The hosts lost to Sri Lanka by 16 runs to level the series. England's innings was restricted to 305 runs in response to Sri Lanka's 321 runs.

After this match, Buttler's total runs in white-ball cricket stand at 10,062. He has scored these runs in 326 innings from 367 matches. He has 13 centuries and 60 half-centuries in his collection.

Buttler's statistics are also quite rich in terms of format. He is England's third-highest run-scorer with 5,678 runs in 204 ODIs. And in T20Is, he has 4,384 runs in 163 matches.

No other England batsman has yet reached the milestone of 10,000 runs in ODIs and T20Is combined, so Buttler's achievement marks the beginning of a new chapter in English cricket in the white-ball format.
