Although Germany topped Group E to reach the knockout stage, the unexpected loss raised questions about the team's form despite fielding a full-strength lineup.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Nagelsmann stressed that victory is the only acceptable outcome.
"When you are the Germany national team, you have to try to win every match," he said, according to AFP. "We are thinking about nothing other than winning this game."
A victory over Paraguay could set up a last-16 clash with one of the tournament favourites, France. However, Nagelsmann insisted his side's focus remains solely on overcoming their next obstacle.
"In football, winning is what matters most," he said. "If you win, everything seems right; if you lose, everything seems wrong. Our first task is to win this match."
The 38-year-old coach also emphasised the importance of thorough preparation to allow his players to perform with confidence under pressure.
"To meet expectations, you need a good plan," Nagelsmann explained. "The players need to fully understand that plan so they can play freely on the pitch. They also need to realise just how good they are."
Nagelsmann believes his squad are ready to deliver when it matters most.
"We need a perfect performance," he said. "I have been very pleased with what I have seen in training, and I believe the players will produce their very best against Paraguay."
Germany face Paraguay in the Round of 32 looking to restore confidence and keep their World Cup title ambitions firmly on track.
