Sweden showed signs of a response before halftime. Isak Lagerbielke thought he had pulled one back with a header, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The Scandinavians also created a few dangerous moments before the break, briefly putting the Dutch defence under pressure.

However, the Netherlands returned for the second half with even greater intensity. Just two minutes after the restart, Cody Gakpo extended the lead to 3-0 with a simple finish after excellent work from Denzel Dumfries.

Seven minutes later, Gakpo struck again, finishing off a well-crafted move created by Crysencio Summerville to make it 4-0 and effectively end any hopes of a Swedish comeback.

Sweden finally found a consolation goal in the 59th minute when Anthony Elanga finished off a swift counterattack. But it proved to be no more than a brief respite for the Nordic side.

Summerville then capped an outstanding individual performance by getting on the scoresheet himself in the 89th minute, sealing an emphatic 5-1 victory for the Dutch.

The statistics reflected the Netherlands’ superiority throughout the contest. They dominated possession, created more scoring opportunities and consistently threatened the Swedish defence with their pace and movement in attack.

Several Dutch players stood out in an impressive team performance. Cody Gakpo finished with two goals and an assist, Denzel Dumfries contributed two assists, Crysencio Summerville registered a goal and an assist, while Brian Brobbey’s early brace laid the foundation for the comfortable victory.

For Sweden, the defeat comes as a major setback. After opening their campaign with an impressive 5-1 win over Tunisia, they appeared to be in a strong position in the group. However, the heavy loss has significantly damaged their goal difference and complicated their path to the round of 16.

Sweden will now face a crucial final group-stage match against Japan, where they are likely to need a positive result to keep their knockout-stage hopes alive.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, will take on Tunisia in their final group match. Based on their current form, even a point from that encounter could be enough to secure qualification for the next round.
