The United Arab Emirates has announced a reduction in the daily working hours of private sector employees on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. The country's Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHR) made the announcement.
According to MoHR, private organizations will be able to introduce flexible or remote working methods within the specified daily time frame according to their work type and business needs.
Typically, employees in the Emirates work 8 to 9 hours a day. This will be reduced by two hours during Ramadan. Any additional work outside the specified shorter hours will be considered overtime and employees will receive additional remuneration.
Working hours in the government sector have also been reduced. Office hours will be from 9 am to 2:30 pm from Monday to Thursday. The office will be open from 9 am to 12 pm on Friday. However, this schedule may not apply to positions where the work type is different. The reduced working hours will allow residents to spend more time with family and friends, as well as devote time to worship and self-reflection.
Although the time to complete work will be two hours less, according to human resources experts, Ramadan creates a kind of new beginning, which makes employees more aware of time management. The first few days may be a bit difficult, but the reduced working hours help employees work more focused, efficient and purposeful.
