A total of 11 expatriates won their fortunes in the popular lottery Big Ticket Live Draw in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in early February. Among them, expatriates from India, Sri Lanka, and the Philippines, including Bangladeshis, won prizes worth crores of taka and luxury cars.
The main attraction of the draw was 20 million (20 million) dirhams (about 640 million taka in Bangladeshi taka). This prize was won by Shanthanu Shettygar, an Indian expatriate living in Oman. He and his friend jointly bought tickets, and both of them received 10 million (one crore) dirhams, that is, about 320 million taka each.
In addition, five people received 1 million dirhams (about 32 million taka) as consolation prizes. One of them is Bangladeshi Mohammad Abu Saeed, living in Al Ain.
Another Bangladeshi expatriate, Shahin Mia (Sharjah expatriate), won a BMW X-5 car, which has a market value of several crores of taka. He will also have the opportunity to take cash instead of the car if he wants.
Four more expatriates won in the Big Win draw. Among them, Bangladeshi Mohammad Touhidul won 150,000 dirhams (about 48 lakh taka), and Shawkat Islam received 90,000 dirhams (about 29 lakh taka).
In total, 11 expatriates, including those from India and Bangladesh, became millionaires or owners of large sums of money in this draw. Next March, the Big Ticket will again have a jackpot of 15 million dirhams, which will bring a new opportunity to change fortunes for expatriates.
