Beijing is in talks with relevant countries about hosting a possible trilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, which could take place in China in late November.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning told reporters on Wednesday (November 4).

He said, "China continues to communicate with relevant parties regarding organizing a meeting between the heads of state of China, Russia and the United States."

Chinese state-run Global Times reported that officials from the three countries are coordinating preparations for a possible meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders' summit in Shenzhen, southeast China, on November 18 and 19. The British Financial Times reported earlier on this matter.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will host leaders and representatives from the 21 APEC member economies. Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump are also expected to attend the summit.

Regarding the organization of the meeting, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, "Work is underway to organize such a meeting."

The Financial Times report also said that a person familiar with the discussions said that Washington and Moscow are pressuring China to agree to host a possible meeting.
