Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reacted angrily to the revocation of SMVDIME's accreditation.

In the face of continuous protests by Hindutva organizations, the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India has revoked the permission to run MBBS courses at a medical college in Jammu and Kashmir. It has been alleged that this decision was taken because the number of Muslim students in the first batch was high. The incident has created a heated debate across India.

The incident took place at the Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) located in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. According to Indian media reports, out of a total of 50 students in the first MBBS batch of the college, 42 were Muslims.

Many RSS and BJP-affiliated organizations launched a movement under the banner of a platform called 'Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Sangram Samiti'. They had been creating pressure for a long time to cancel the admission of Muslim students.

In this context, the NMC cancelled the permission of the college to run MBBS courses, alleging serious deficiencies in the infrastructure, number of teachers and clinical facilities. The commission claims that these deficiencies were detected during a surprise inspection this month.

However, the SMVDIME authorities have rejected the allegations of the NMC report, calling it 'contradictory' and 'farce'. They claim that the inspection team had already come up with the intention of canceling the college's recognition so that the agitators against the admission of Muslim students can be appeased.

Expressing strong anger over the incident, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that these students will go to Bangladesh to study if necessary. He said, students are admitted here on the basis of entrance exams. Admission is not done here on the basis of religion. Now if you want Muslims not to study here, fine, then they will not study anymore. But in that case, declare it as a minority institution. When you were building the medical college, it should have been declared a minority institution. Why wasn't it done then?

When children are ready to go to study in a medical college named after 'Mata Vaishno Devi', they have no problem with the name of the institution or in whose name it is built. They have only one goal, and that is education. They want to become doctors. Remember, they got admitted here on the basis of merit. Now make arrangements for them to get admitted somewhere else.

Now if you don't want to admit them because of their religion, and tomorrow if they go to some other institution, where they become radical, then who will take responsibility for it? Please don't push Muslim children like this.

If you want Muslim children not to study in this medical college, then please change its status. Give it the status of a minority institution. Then our children will study somewhere else. They will go to Bangladesh, Turkey, or some other country.
