In the entertainment world, for an actor, the silver screen character and the real-life character are two separate entities. But for family members, that boundary is not always clear. Especially when seeing a loved one intimate on screen, other family members can feel uncomfortable. Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney also had to go through such an experience.

In a series that began in 2019, her character's important parts were relationships, sexuality, social perspectives, and emotional tension. As a result, she had to act to portray several intimate aspects of the character's needs. However, Sydney Sweeney did not tell her family about these things before watching the series.

Speaking about her family's reaction on NBC's Sunday Today with Willie Geist in 2023, the actress said that her mother already knew what kind of scenes the series would have. Because she had been to the shooting set a few times. She also talked to her daughter about her character and the story. But Sydney Sweeney did not tell her father any of this.

He doesn't usually discuss his work with his father much. So he didn't know how to tell him what his character was in 'Euphoria'. But the funny thing is - without telling him, he started watching the series with his parents and grandfather. That is, both Sydney's father and grandfather sat down to watch the series together. But after seeing her daughter in such a scene on the screen, they couldn't watch it for long. Her father and grandfather turned off the series and left the house.

The actress laughed when she recounted the incident in the 2023 interview. However, other family members had a different reaction. Sydney Sweeney said, "My grandmother was a big fan of her work. I would often take my grandmother with me when I went to shoot in different countries. I would try to bring my grandmother in front of the camera as an extra character in some projects."

For Sydney, the issue of intimate scenes in the series 'Euphoria' did not stop at just causing discomfort to her family. After the series became popular, screenshots of her character's nude scenes were circulated on social media. What was even more uncomfortable was that the pictures were also shared with members of her family tagged in them.

Earlier in an interview in 2022, Sydney said, "It was distressing to see pictures of my character's scenes being shared on social media. The tags of these posts also reached my younger brother's account. I have to put my family members in a situation that is disrespectful and distressing to me."

People close to her family trolled her on social media with screenshots of her nude scenes. The actress said that the character she plays on screen is not her personal identity. Therefore, it is unfair for her to drag her family members into the center of the character's scenes. In an interview with The Independent in 2022, she also said that she is proud of her acting. But because of the nude scenes, many people do not discuss my acting side.

According to Sidney, there is a kind of double standard when it comes to nudity on screen for female actors. She says that even when male actors show intimate scenes or their bodies, it is often considered part of the performance. But in the case of female actresses, the nudity scene becomes the center of discussion.

In the series 'Euphoria', Cassie Howard plays a young woman who is searching for her identity in love, relationships, body and acceptance by others. The series uses intimacy and nudity as a storytelling element to highlight the various crises in the character's life. But in real life, Sydney Sweeney and the Cassie she plays are not the same person. The actress herself has repeatedly spoken about this difference. The experience of watching the series in front of her family members makes that difference even clearer; what is a character scene for the audience, is an experience of watching a person they know on screen for the family.
