'Avengers: Endgame' has once again taken the top spot at the box office. The 2019 superhero film has now grossed $2.925 billion worldwide since its recent re-release, surpassing 2009's 'Avatar' to reclaim the top spot.
"Avatar" has grossed $2.923 billion worldwide to date. The film has been re-released five times. Meanwhile, "Avengers: Endgame" has narrowly surpassed "Avatar" after its recent "encore" re-release.

'Avatar' held the record for the highest-grossing film in history for nearly a decade. 'Avengers: Endgame' broke that record when it first hit theaters in 2019. However, when 'Avatar' returned to theaters in 2021, 'Endgame' dropped to second place. Now, after five years, the world's most powerful superhero team has once again reclaimed the top spot.

This success, however, is profitable for Disney to be at the top of either of the two films. "Avatar" was released by "Twentieth Century Fox", which is now owned by Disney through its acquisition of the company in 2019. With the addition of Fox's film business, seven of the 10 highest-grossing films are now under Disney. The list includes "Avatar: The Way of Water" with $2.33 billion, "Titanic" with $2.26 billion and "Avengers: Infinity War" with $2.05 billion.

One of the purposes of re-releasing 'Avengers: Endgame' was to build anticipation for the upcoming 'Avengers: Doomsday', which is set to be released in December.

Avengers: Endgame was the epic conclusion to 21 films in the 10-year journey of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It brought together almost all the popular comic book characters, including Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Chris Evans' Captain America, Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Tom Holland's Spider-Man, Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, and Anthony Mackie's Falcon.

After a few ups and downs since the pandemic, Marvel is bringing together almost the entire superhero universe once again in 'Doomsday.' The re-release of 'Endgame' has grossed over $126 million worldwide. Thrilled by this success, theater owners are also expecting 'Doomsday' to be one of the biggest box office hits of the year.

Anthony and Joe Russo return to direct 'Avengers: Doomsday.' It is the 39th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has long been one of the most successful film franchises in the world in terms of commercial success.

Meanwhile, this summer's Spider-Man: Brand New Day was a huge box office success, grossing more than $2.5 billion. In total, the combined gross of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films now stands at $35.07 billion.
