Is the United States going to join the war on Saudi Arabia’s behalf?

US President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States may join in countering the military activities of the Iran-backed Houthi rebels against Saudi Arabia.
He said a decision on the matter would be made after news of an attack on the Saudi capital Riyadh airport emerged on Saturday. However, the matter is still at the discussion stage.
As he was driving from the White House to an election rally in Tennessee, reporters asked Trump whether the United States would participate in Saudi Arabia's fight against the Houthis.
In response, Trump said, "We can join. We will look into it." He added, "We just learned about the recent attacks at the airport. So we will make a decision. We will act very quickly."
Several people were injured in an attack on Saudi Arabia's King Khalid International Airport on Saturday, followed by another attack that also killed many people. Yemen's Houthi rebels have not yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Saudi Arabia's Civil Aviation Authority said the incident was part of an ongoing series of attacks targeting the country's civil aviation facilities, but did not provide details on the nature of the attacks or who was involved.
However, the attack on Riyadh airport also raises questions about whether Trump's previous position on a possible US strike on Iran will change. Trump had previously said he would not move forward with a possible strike on Iran before the US midterm elections.
When asked about this, Trump said, "We will look into the matter."
CBS News says Trump's statement did not rule out the possibility of direct US military involvement on behalf of Saudi Arabia. However, it is not yet clear whether Washington has made a final decision on the matter.
