Bollywood’s famous actress Kamini Kaushal passes away

Bollywood's veteran actress Kamini Kaushal is no more. The actress breathed her last at her home in Mumbai late on Thursday (November 13). A close family friend of the actress confirmed the news of her death to Indian news agency 'PTI'.

The 98-year-old actress was born Uma Kashyap. She was supposed to turn 99 in February next year. She had been suffering from various complications related to old age for a long time. However, the reason for the actress's death is not yet known.

Kamini Kaushal was one of the famous actresses of Bollywood. As soon as the news of her death spread, a shadow of grief fell on the Indian film industry. She has gifted the audience with a bunch of popular movies in television and film for more than seven decades.

Kamini is one of the early superstars of the Bollywood industry. Born in Lahore, British India in 1927, the actress is the daughter of the famous botanist Professor Shiv Ram Kashyap of Punjab University. The actress's father was recognized as the father of Indian bryology.

She made her Bollywood debut in 1946 with the film 'Neecha Nagar' starring Chetan Anand. Later, this film created history by winning the 'Palme d'Or' at the Cannes Film Festival. Which is the only Indian film to have retained that honor till now.

After that, she acted in more than 90 films including 'Aag', 'Shaheed', 'Nadia Ke Paar' and 'Ziddi'. She acted with Bollywood's Dilip Kumar to Devanand and even Raj Kapoor. Her impeccable performance impressed the audience and fellow artists. Although the character style changed over time, she remained unique in the status of her acting talent. She also has a connection with the career of actor Dharmendra - Kamini was Dharmendra's first co-actress in the film 'Shaheed'.

However, in the old days, the actress also acted in Shah Rukh Khan's 'Chennai Express' and Shahid Kapoor's 'Kabir Khan'. She last acted in Aamir Khan's 'Laal Singh Chaddha'. She played a cameo role in this film.

Incidentally, in the last few months, several actors and actresses including Asnari, Satish Shah have gone to the land of no return forever. Kamini Kaushal's death is not just the end of a chapter; it is also the end of a historical era in Indian cinema. She is survived by three sons - Shravan, Vidur and Rahul Sood.
