Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf, who was accused of beating several people outside a New Orleans bar earlier this month, has been arrested again. He was arrested on Saturday (February 28) in the US city of New Orleans on another charge of ‘simple battery’ (common assault), according to court documents.
A statement from LaBeouf’s lawyer said the arrest is related to the fight on February 17. The incident took place outside the ‘Royal Street Inn and R Bar’ near the French Quarter during the Mardi Gras festival.
The complaint says that LaBeouf also made homophobic comments while beating several people. A video shows him throwing one man to the ground and punching another in the face. The man was seriously injured during the incident.
LaBeouf voluntarily surrendered to the Orleans Parish Jail after New Orleans police issued a new arrest warrant on Friday, his lawyer Sarah Charvinsky said.
LaBeouf's lawyer Sarah Charvinsky criticized the police action, saying, "No ordinary person should have to pay more than $100,000 in bail or go to jail twice for a single simple assault. Just as he does not deserve special treatment because he is a public figure, it is also inappropriate to treat him harshly."
According to the police report, a video of the incident shows a shirtless LaBeouf pushing one person to the ground and punching another in the face, which nearly broke the person's nose.
However, the actor has not yet formally pleaded guilty or denied any wrongdoing in court, according to the report.
