Afghanistan to import medicines from Bangladesh

A delegation from Afghanistan has visited several pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Bangladesh.

Afghanistan wants to import medicines through direct agreements with leading pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Bangladesh. A delegation of Afghan businessmen led by Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry Maulvi Ahmadullah Zahid has expressed this interest during a visit to Bangladesh.

A statement from the Afghan Ministry of Commerce and Industry said that a delegation led by Deputy Minister Maulvi Ahmadullah Zahid visited two large and well-known pharmaceutical manufacturing companies in Bangladesh in Dhaka. The two companies are among the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers in Bangladesh and their products are exported to about 50 countries, the statement said.

During the visit, Maulvi Zahid urged Bangladeshi pharmaceutical investors to set up pharmaceutical manufacturing plants in Afghanistan. He said that complete security has been ensured throughout the country, the Afghan government is fully supporting industrial and manufacturing activities. He also said that all necessary facilities are being provided for investment.

Meanwhile, Dr. Naimullah Ayubi, Director General of the Directorate of Medicines and Health Products Control of the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan, said that all-out cooperation will be assured to Bangladeshi manufacturers in accordance with the existing regulations of the ministry.

The statement also said that an agreement has been reached between Afghan businessmen and Bangladeshi pharmaceutical manufacturers to sign direct contracts and import medicines from Bangladesh to Afghanistan.
