Bangladesh has exported more than 1 million manpower abroad in 11 months.

Bangladesh's foreign employment is in a satisfactory position from January to November this year. In total, Bangladesh has exported more than 1 million manpower abroad from the first day of the year to November 30.

According to the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), 1 million 11 thousand 882 people from Bangladesh have migrated abroad for work in the last 11 months. While 1 million 11 thousand 856 Bangladeshis went abroad last year. In addition, a total of 13 lakh 3 thousand 453 Bangladeshi citizens went abroad for work in 2023.

According to data from various recruiting agencies and migrant workers' rights organizations, foreign employment in some traditional destinations like Malaysia has been somewhat disrupted this year. However, in addition to identifying new foreign job markets, high demand for Bangladeshi labor in some countries has helped Bangladesh reach a good position in manpower exports.

In this regard, an official of a private bank said that satisfactory remittances have come to the country since December 2024, which has been possible for several reasons. Among these, the role of the narrowing of the gap between the official and unofficial exchange rates and strict measures to curb money laundering is notable.

He said that the growth in manpower exports in recent times has helped in the good wind of remittances. Because, 1 lakh 31 thousand 53 Bangladeshis went abroad for employment from Bangladesh last month.

Meanwhile, the latest data from the central bank says that remittance inflows into the country from July to November of the current fiscal year stood at $13.3 billion. While it was $11.13 billion in the same period of the last fiscal year.

According to relevant sources, from the first day of this year to November, 670,749 and 1439 Bangladeshis have migrated to the Middle Eastern countries of Saudi Arabia and Qatar for work, respectively. In addition, 64,326 Bangladeshis have been employed in Singapore during this period.

Experts say that now the government will have to increase investment in developing skilled manpower based on need, such as doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers. Because their demand will increase in different countries in the future.

Although the government has already established many training centers in different districts of the country and has also launched skill development programs to create skilled manpower. These trainings include diplomas in shipbuilding engineering, general mechanics, electrical equipment maintenance, refrigeration and air-conditioning, Auto CAD 2D and 3D, welding (6G), catering, masonry, and various other skill development programs including Korean, Arabic, and Japanese language learning.
