Bihar is reeling under floods, 14 districts are inundated, 4 million people are stranded

Bihar, India, has been hit by severe floods due to continuous rains and water coming down from upstream. So far, 14 districts of the state have been flooded. The water of several rivers, including the Ganges, is flowing above the danger level. The Bihar State Disaster Management Department has said that 40 lakh 21 thousand people have been affected by the floods so far.

According to the department sources, 514 gram panchayats in 84 blocks have been affected by the flood. The water level in the rivers of the state has started rising rapidly due to continuous rains for the last five days. Along with this, the situation has become more complicated due to the water coming down from upstream due to heavy rains in Nepal.

The Bihar Meteorological Department has said that the state has received about 80 mm of rain so far this month. Which is 31 percent more than normal. Rain is forecast in different parts of the state for the next two days. As a result, it is feared that the flood situation may worsen further. The list of districts most affected by the floods includes Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Munger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnia and Arwal.

The water of the Ganga is flowing above the danger level in Sultanganj of Bhagalpur. Similarly, the water of the Gandak, Koshi, Buri Gandak, Punpun, Bagmati and Ghaghra rivers have also crossed the danger level in various areas. 27 teams of the State Disaster Response Force and 10 teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed to deal with the situation. Along with rescue work, relief activities have also started in the affected areas.

723 public kitchens have been opened for flood victims. In addition, 15 relief camps have been opened. So far, 13,446 people have been rescued from the affected areas.

The administration has increased surveillance in the affected areas. The water level of the rivers is being monitored regularly. Residents of low-lying areas have been asked to be alert as rain is forecast for the next two days.

The impact of heavy rains in Nepal and continuous rainfall in Bihar have together made the situation more difficult. As a result, the flood situation in Bihar in the next few days may pose a major challenge for the administration.
