Trump ecstatic over far-right party’s victory in Germany

US President Donald Trump has praised the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party for its record victory in German state elections, saying the party's popularity is due to public anger over Germany's tough immigration policies.

"Germany's populist party had a big night," Trump said in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday (September 8) local time.

He also said that the people of Germany were finally fed up with the country's "terrible immigration policies and restrictions." 

He claims that these policies have caused great harm to Germany. Now the AfD is rapidly gaining popularity and people no longer want to accept them.

At the end of the post, Trump wrote 'MGGA', which stands for 'Make Germany Great Again'.

The AfD won 43.8 percent of the vote in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt on Sunday (September 6), the party's highest vote-getter in any state election in Germany.

On the other hand, the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) led by Chancellor Friedrich Merz received 17.2 percent of the vote.

But the AfD is also controversial in Germany, with the country's domestic intelligence agency classifying the party's state branch as a "certified right-wing extremist organization."

The intelligence agency alleges that parts of the party interpret national identity based on ethnic and racist concepts, which are incompatible with Germany's democratic and constitutional system.

Based on this assessment, Germany's mainstream political parties have still refused to cooperate with the AfD in forming a government.
