What happened at the Seattle Food Festival?

At least three people were killed in a shooting at the popular Bite of Seattle food festival in the US city of Seattle. Four others were seriously injured in the incident. The incident took place at the Seattle Center on Sunday evening local time.

Seattle police said that initial investigations suggest that two people opened fire at each other. Two firearms were recovered from the scene. The injured were rushed to Harborview Medical Center. One of them is in critical condition.

Thousands of people were present at the festival when the shooting occurred. Witnesses said that after hearing seven to eight consecutive gunshots, panic spread around immediately. Many people were almost trampled while running for their lives.

25-year-old witness Estan Wakonabo said that the festival was so crowded from the beginning that it was difficult to move. As soon as they heard the gunshots, people started running, trampling each other. The whole situation was pure chaos.

He added that when he returned to the scene, he saw several people lying on the ground with gunshot wounds. One of the bodies was covered with a yellow sheet.

Videos circulating on social media also showed scenes of rush and chaos at the festival site after the gunshots.

Police have arrested one suspect after the attack. However, another is still at large. Police are investigating the incident and are continuing to try to arrest the fugitive suspect.

Organized since 1982, ‘Bite of Seattle’ is one of the largest food festivals in the United States. About 350,000 people participate in this three-day event every year.
