At least eight people have died in storm-related incidents in the US states of Florida and Alabama due to the impact of Hurricane Isaias. The storm caused widespread power outages, damage to homes, heavy rainfall and flooding. Although the terrible situation has passed, dangerous conditions still prevail in various areas.
This information was revealed from a report by the media outlet Weather on Wednesday (October 14).
The report said six people in Florida and two in Alabama were confirmed dead in storm-related incidents, with officials warning of a variety of hazards along the US Gulf Coast due to strong winds, heavy rain and flooding.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, "There have been more deaths in situations like this before. I think people are taking precautions this time. Local officials have also done a good job of making people aware of the risks."
Governor DeSantis said the six storm-related deaths in Florida were caused by both direct and indirect causes of the storm.
A woman died when a tree fell on her home during a storm in Escambia County, while a man died of carbon monoxide poisoning from using a generator in his garage in Pensacola, sending four other family members to the hospital.
The remaining deaths in Florida include an accident while removing a tree, a car accident at an intersection with a traffic signal out of order, and two deaths due to medical delays.
One person was killed when a tree fell on a house in Birmingham, Alabama, early Saturday morning. Another person was killed in Jefferson County, Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey confirmed, but officials did not provide further details.
The aftermath of the hurricane is a reminder that dangerous conditions can persist even after the storm has passed.Officials advised residents to use generators in open areas and stay away from downed trees and power lines.
