The US State Department has urged US citizens to exercise "extreme caution" when using major airports in Saudi Arabia, following fresh attacks on facilities in Riyadh and Dammam.
In a post on social media, the official account of the US State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs, Travelgov, said it was aware of a new attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. At the same time, an attack was also targeted at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
The State Department also said that US government employees stationed in Saudi Arabia will need to obtain special approval before using airports in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam.
The United States has also warned of flight cancellations, airspace closures, and travel disruptions. In such situations, passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines and airports directly for the latest flight status.
The US State Department has also mentioned the use of private cars, trains, and buses as alternatives if air travel is disrupted.
