Trump is at a loss in the face of strong opposition from allies

The past few days have been quite uncomfortable and confronting for US President Donald Trump. Faced with some crises of his own making and opposition from close allies, the US president is facing several challenges, both large and small.

While Trump usually likes to stick to the facts and beliefs he likes, this time the situation is a bit different; because his opponents are not outsiders, but his own party and most loyal allies.

This was seen in the case of former Olympic athlete David Hearn, who was accused of vandalizing the Reflecting Pool near the National Mall in Washington. Jeanine Piro, a former Fox News host and staunch Trump supporter, told the court that the vandalism was not intentional, but rather the result of a faulty repair.

Realizing that this weak case would not hold up before a judge and a potential jury, she withdrew the case. But Trump did not accept the decision and harshly criticized Pirro on social media, saying that he had folded like an umbrella.

Meanwhile, Trump suffered another political setback on Capitol Hill with the nomination of his close ally and former criminal defense lawyer Todd Blanch to the post of attorney general. Two conservative Republican senators, John Carney and Thom Tillis, objected to the proposed $1.8 billion fund to compensate victims of Trump's politically motivated government prosecutions.

Opposing the fund, they blocked Blanch's nomination and demanded a written commitment to formally abandon any attempt to revive the fund. Ultimately, Blanch, accepting the Senate's political reckoning, agreed to the terms and released two letters to allay senators' concerns.

But even more worrying than these domestic legal and political troubles is the ongoing war with Iran. Amid renewed talks with Tehran and threats of US military action, Trump has again accused Iran of deception.

Trump has claimed that Iranian officials have publicly denied having requested the meeting. However, media outlets, citing US and Iranian officials, have reported that there has been no major diplomatic progress other than limited talks on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz brokered by Oman.

Trump's popularity among the American public has declined significantly due to such complications and the protracted war. Recent opinion polls have shown Trump's approval rating at just 33 percent, the lowest of any second-term president in modern US history.

However, Trump has completely rejected this low popularity and the poll results, claiming that his real popularity is at an all-time high. The US midterm elections are coming up, where voters will play a major role in determining Trump's political fate.
