South Korea witnesses highest temperature in a century

South Korea has recorded its highest temperature in a century, reaching 42.5 degrees Celsius. The country has issued an emergency warning due to a severe heat wave, advising citizens to refrain from all outdoor activities.

The highest temperature was recorded in the southeastern city of Yangsan, where temperatures have been above 40 degrees Celsius for five consecutive days. As the intense heat has disrupted public life, residents are taking refuge in air-conditioned shopping malls, cafes and government cooling centers.

An emergency heat wave warning has been issued in more than twenty regions to deal with the situation. The Meteorological Department has asked citizens to immediately stop outdoor activities and drink plenty of water and rest in shaded places. The country's professional baseball league matches have also been canceled due to the extreme heat.

According to scientists, heat waves around the world are becoming more intense due to man-made climate change and the influence of El Nino. Along with South Korea, countries around the world, including Europe, are also battling intense heat this year.
