North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un said that the current war situation between Iran and the United States proves that Pyongyang made the right decision by rejecting pressure to give up its nuclear weapons.

He made the remarks in a speech to the country's Supreme People's Assembly on Tuesday (March 24).

In the speech, Kim Jong Un, without naming him, accused Washington of "state-sponsored terrorism and aggression." He said the current world situation clearly proves that North Korea has acted rationally by not giving in to America's "sweet talk" and pressure to denuclearize. Kim also declared that North Korea's status as a nuclear-armed state is now "irreplaceable."

Lessons from the Iran crisis

The North Korean leadership has long believed that non-nuclear-armed countries are defenseless against American military power. President Donald Trump launched the attack on Iran just months after he vowed to destroy its nuclear capabilities. According to Kim, this proves that only nuclear weapons can deter US aggression.

Negotiation conditions and a new equation

Although Trump recently indicated that he would resume talks with North Korea, Kim's latest statement could change the course of the talks. Kim Jong Un said that the United States must recognize North Korea as a nuclear power. No talks on denuclearization like in 2019 are possible anymore.

It is worth noting that Kim has recently brought his daughter Kim Ju Ae to the forefront of various military exercises, indicating that the nuclear program is not only permanent, but also part of the protection of future generations.

Russia-North Korea military alliance

In addition, Pyongyang's relations with Russia are gradually strengthening. Russian state television has broadcast footage of North Korean soldiers training near the Ukrainian border. In return, North Korea is receiving food, fuel and advanced military technology from Russia, analysts believe.

In this new geopolitical context, Kim Jong Un has made it clear that while he has not completely closed the door to talks with Washington, he can talk, but not give up nuclear weapons.
