The administration of US President Donald Trump has announced the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Yemeni refugees.

In a statement on Friday (February 13), Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noam said that Yemenis are now safe to return to their home country. The decision will force more than 1,000 Yemeni refugees and asylum seekers living in the United States to leave the country within the next 60 days or face arrest and deportation.

In a statement, Homeland Security Secretary Christy Noam said that after reviewing the current situation in Yemen, they believe that the country no longer meets the legal requirements for TPS. She described the decision as part of the “America First” policy and said that allowing Yemenis to remain in the United States is now contrary to the national interest.

However, analysts believe that this claim of the US administration is in conflict with the actual situation in Yemen. Because this country, one of the poorest in the world, is still at war and conflict, and the US State Department itself has issued warnings to its citizens about the risk of terrorism and kidnapping when traveling to Yemen.

As a result of such strict measures near the holy month of Ramadan, about 1,400 Yemeni citizens, who had originally sought refuge in the United States since 2015 to escape the terrible situation in their war-torn country, were in crisis. The administration said that those who leave the country on their own initiative or 'voluntarily' will be given a complimentary plane ticket and an 'exit bonus' of $ 2,600 or farewell allowance.

President Donald Trump has taken a tough stance against immigration since taking office. In addition to Yemen, this protected status for citizens of Venezuela, Haiti, Somalia, Ukraine and several other countries has been revoked in the past year. In addition, there is a full ban on citizens of 19 Muslim-majority and African countries entering the United States, and a partial ban on 29 more countries.
