Cristiano Ronaldo's sister, Elma Aveiro, has made a cryptic comment on social media after he left the Portugal national team camp. She wrote on Instagram, "It's better to take revenge for betrayal with a cool head." After her comment, a new discussion has started about the reason for Ronaldo's departure from the camp.
Ronaldo announced his departure from the Portugal camp in a post on Instagram on Wednesday. However, the Portuguese star forward did not clarify why he left the camp. He only said that he decided to leave the camp after discussions with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proenza. At the same time, he also indicated that everything will be known in due time.
Ronaldo previously played in Portugal's 1-0 win over Wales in the UEFA Nations League, but was on the bench for the entire 2-1 win over Norway.
Shortly after Ronaldo left the camp, his sister commented on social media about "revenge for betrayal." Although she did not specify who or what incident she was calling a "traitor."
Meanwhile, Portugal continued their winning streak without Ronaldo. The team won their third consecutive victory by defeating Denmark 4-2 on Thursday. With this victory, they also retained the top spot in Group A4 of the Nations League. Portugal will face Norway again next Sunday.
Portugal coach Jorge Jesus said that the situation surrounding Ronaldo has not affected the unity of the team.
Asked if everyone in the team is with Ronaldo, Jesus said, "Yes. There is nothing that can stop the team from being with me. I understand the question. The important thing is what we have to do. Everything that is happening has not divided the team, has not divided us and will not in the future."
Portugal have now won three consecutive matches under Jesus, with Ronaldo missing the last two. As a result, there has been talk of him leaving the camp, but his absence has not yet had an impact on his performance on the pitch.
