The United States has warned of further pressure on Iran. At the same time, the Trump administration has not ruled out the possibility of taking military action against Tehran if necessary.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters on Monday (August 24) local time. On the same day, Washington declared an 'economic D-Day' against Tehran.
The pressure is being exerted to target Tehran's global financial interests, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said. At a press conference at the Treasury Department on Monday, the US Treasury Secretary said the main goal of the campaign is to cut off all sources of Iran's income, including the oil sector, and to prevent other countries and companies from doing business with Tehran.
Hegseth told reporters that the possibility of a military attack in the Strait of Hormuz or anywhere around Iran is not being ruled out.He also said that the country will not be able to tolerate the economic pressure that the United States is putting on Iran for long.
