Ghanaian Mystic Predicts Cape Verde Upset Against Argentina

Predictions are nothing new in world football. From pundits and former players to self-proclaimed prophets, bold forecasts often dominate the headlines before major tournaments. This time, the spotlight has fallen on controversial Ghanaian spiritualist Nana Kwaku Bonsam, who has made a stunning prediction involving Lionel Messi's Argentina.
Bonsam has claimed that Cape Verde will defeat Argentina in their Round of 32 clash in Miami on July 4. According to him, the African side is capable of producing another major upset after already impressing in the tournament by overcoming the likes of Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia to reach the knockout stage.
Argentina, the reigning world champions after lifting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, have been in dominant form throughout the group stage. Messi has led from the front, scoring six goals in three matches, including a hat-trick, to power the Albiceleste into the knockout rounds.
Despite Bonsam's prediction, football analysts overwhelmingly regard Argentina as clear favourites. On paper, the South American giants possess greater experience, superior quality and a proven ability to handle the pressure of major knockout matches compared to Cape Verde.
The Ghanaian mystic is no stranger to making controversial claims. Over the years, he has repeatedly attracted attention with assertions of supernatural influence on football matches.
One of his most famous claims came ahead of Ghana's 2022 World Cup match against England, when he said he had used "black magic" to prevent England captain Harry Kane from scoring. Bonsam insisted he wished Kane no harm but simply wanted to stop him from finding the net against Ghana.
That match ended in a goalless draw, although Kane scored in England's following game. Bonsam later pointed to the earlier result as evidence of his powers, even describing himself as "the most powerful spiritualist in the world."
While his predictions are not considered part of scientific or football analysis, Bonsam's remarks regularly resurface whenever major tournaments take place, generating widespread debate and discussion on social media.
Many analysts believe such predictions are little more than entertainment, arguing that the outcome of matches is ultimately decided by the players' performances on the pitch rather than supernatural claims.
The spotlight now turns to Miami, where Cape Verde will attempt to pull off one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history—or whether Argentina will continue their march in defence of their world title.
