Playing at NRG Stadium in Houston, Roberto Martínez's side produced a dominant display to strengthen their position in the group standings. Ronaldo was the star of the show, scoring twice and setting multiple records, although the veteran forward was denied a hat-trick despite creating several opportunities.

Portugal made an aggressive start and opened the scoring in just the sixth minute. A swift run down the right by João Cancelo ended with a precise cutback that Ronaldo converted at the near post. The goal made him the first player in World Cup history to score in six different editions of the tournament.

The Portuguese doubled their lead in the 17th minute. While many expected Ronaldo to take a direct free-kick from outside the penalty area, Nuno Mendes surprised everyone with a curling left-footed strike that found the bottom-right corner, leaving Uzbekistan goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov with no chance.

Uzbekistan thought they had pulled a goal back in the 29th minute when Gʻaniyev unleashed a spectacular long-range effort. However, a VAR review ruled the goal out after determining that Abbosbek Fayzullaev had fouled Cancelo in the build-up.

Portugal struck again before halftime. In the 39th minute, Bruno Fernandes delivered a superb through ball that Ronaldo collected before finishing confidently into the far corner for his second goal of the night.

The strike saw Ronaldo surpass legendary Portuguese forward Eusébio as Portugal's all-time leading World Cup scorer. It also took his World Cup tally to 10 goals.

Leading 3-0 at the break, Portugal continued to dominate after halftime. Their fourth goal arrived in the 60th minute through an own goal. A low corner from Fernandes caused confusion inside the penalty area, with the ball eventually deflecting off defenders and goalkeeper Nematov before crossing the line.

Ronaldo came close to completing his hat-trick on several occasions. In the 51st minute, his delicate chip was cleared off the goal line by Khusanov, while Nematov later produced an excellent save to deny him from long range. Another late opportunity also went begging.

Portugal completed the rout in the 87th minute when Rafael Leão added a fifth goal. A pass intended for Ronaldo was deflected into Leão's path, and the AC Milan winger made no mistake, firing home emphatically.

The statistics reflected Portugal's superiority throughout the contest. They consistently controlled possession and created the better chances, while Uzbekistan struggled to threaten the Portuguese defense.

The victory represents an impressive response from Portugal after a disappointing opening draw against DR Congo national football team. With four points from two matches, Portugal have moved to the top of Group K and are well positioned to secure a place in the knockout stage.

For Ronaldo, meanwhile, another record-breaking performance further enhanced a remarkable World Cup legacy, proving that even at 41 years of age, he remains one of football's most influential figures.
