The crucial Group C World Cup match between Scotland and Brazil in Miami, United States, is facing the possibility of a delay or temporary suspension due to adverse weather conditions.

The concern comes just days after a match in Philadelphia was interrupted for an extended period because of thunderstorms. According to local weather forecasts, thunderstorms are likely around kickoff time in Miami, raising fears that the match could start later than scheduled or be halted temporarily if severe weather develops.

Sudden thunderstorms and flash flooding are common in the United States during June and July. While the opening week of the tournament passed without major weather disruptions, changing conditions have recently begun affecting several matches.

Earlier, the match between France and Iraq in Philadelphia was suspended for nearly two hours at halftime because of lightning and thunderstorms. Play later resumed, with France securing a comfortable 4-0 victory. In contrast, Norway’s match against Senegal in New Jersey was played to completion despite heavy rainfall.

Miami, Florida, now appears to be the venue most vulnerable to weather-related disruption. According to weather forecasting service AccuWeather, there is a 51 percent chance of thunderstorms around 5:00 p.m. local time—approximately one hour before kickoff.

The Scotland-Brazil encounter is scheduled to begin at 4:00 a.m. Bangladesh time on Wednesday.

The match carries significant importance for Scotland as they seek a place in the knockout stage. A draw against Brazil would be enough to secure qualification as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams. Even in defeat, Scotland could still advance depending on goal difference and results elsewhere.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke said his team is prepared for any weather-related interruptions.

“Based on the forecast, there could be some disruption. But we are ready for that. We have plans in place to keep the players mentally focused if the match is stopped,” Clarke said.

He added that the team has also prepared contingency plans to deal with any unexpected circumstances that may arise during the game.
