Former Pakistani television actress Arij Fatyma has publicly shared for the first time that she has recovered from a rare and aggressive form of cancer, following a four-month battle with the disease.
In an emotional Instagram video, the Hassad star revealed she was diagnosed with choriocarcinoma — a fast-spreading cancer that develops from uterine tissue, often following a molar pregnancy in which abnormal growth forms instead of a normal fetus.
“My life was going well. I never took things too seriously and thought I would live a long life. I even skipped prayers at times,” Arij said. “Then, in just a few hours, everything changed. I fought for my life, not knowing if I would survive.”
She underwent major surgery as part of her treatment, choosing to remain silent during the ordeal for fear of judgment. “People can be quick to assume the worst and question your character,” she explained.
Arij credited her family for standing by her throughout the journey and urged followers not to judge lives based on social media appearances. She also stressed the importance of health awareness:
“If you feel something is wrong, don’t ignore it or rely on home remedies. Get yourself checked.”
Although she is now cancer-free, Arij will have to undergo regular follow-up tests for years to ensure the illness does not return. “The thought of recurrence keeps me grounded, reminds me of death, and pushes me to live more meaningfully,” she shared, asking fans to keep her in their prayers.
Arij Fatyma left the entertainment industry in 2019, two years after marrying Dr. Uzair Ali. She currently lives in Ohio, USA, with her husband and their two sons.
