Two teens ejected, one critically injured in Queens parkway crash

A teen passenger suffered critical head injuries after being ejected during a rollover crash on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens.
WHITESTONE, Queens (WABC) -- A teenager suffered critical head injuries after being ejected from an overturned car in a violent crash on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens Saturday night, police said.

According to investigators, a 19-year-old driver behind the wheel of a 2020 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on the Cross Island Parkway when he attempted to merge from the left lane into the middle lane, failed to navigate the roadway and slammed into the rear of a 2008 Honda Accord. The Camry then overturned.

Police said two passengers in the Camry, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, were ejected onto the roadway. The younger teen suffered minor injuries and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens in stable condition.

The Camry's 19-year-old driver and an 18-year-old passenger were transported to Jacobi Hospital with minor injuries and were listed in stable condition. The 42-year-old driver of the Honda Accord also suffered minor injuries and was taken to Jacobi Hospital. A 36-year-old woman riding in the Accord was not hurt.

No arrests have been made. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
