AccuWeather: Stormier at night

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Wednesday will feature plenty of clouds, humid conditions, and a few spotty showers during the daytime, with the better chance for rainfall focused north and west of the city. High temperatures will remain below normal, reaching only about 73 degrees.

Attention then turns to Wednesday night, when another round of showers and thunderstorms could bring heavy rainfall and localized flooding concerns. The strongest rainfall is expected after midnight and may create standing water issues for early Thursday morning commuters. Some heavy showers could still be lingering through the Thursday morning hours before additional scattered thunderstorms develop later in the afternoon. While Thursday's storms appear less severe and more scattered in nature, they will continue the unsettled pattern across the area.

The good news is that the storm threat finally begins to diminish by Friday as humidity levels drop and skies turn sunny to partly cloudy. There is a slight chance of an isolated shower Friday and Saturday, mainly north and west of the city, but most locations are expected to stay dry.

Looking ahead to the Labor Day weekend, the forecast continues to trend favorably. Temperatures will remain comfortably in the 70s with a mix of sunshine and clouds during the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. Labor Day itself is shaping up to be the sunniest day of the holiday weekend, with pleasant conditions continuing into Tuesday before a chance of showers potentially returns.

After a stormy start to September, a stretch of dry and comfortable weather appears ready to settle in just in time for the long holiday weekend.
