Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has proposed a NATO-style cooperative security system at an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Qatar.
He said, “An attack on any Arab or Islamic country will be considered an attack on all.”
Al Jazeera reported on Monday (September 15).
Speaking at the summit, al-Sudani said, “The security and stability of any Arab or Islamic country is an integral part of our collective security.”
He proposed the formation of a “joint Arab-Islamic committee” that would convey their position to the UN Security Council and international organizations.
“We have a real opportunity to send a clear message that our country’s security is not negotiable,” he added.
Al-Sudani called the attack on Qatar “a transgression and a violation of every humanitarian principle,” and called on the conference leaders to “adopt a single and united Arab-Islamic position to condemn the attack” and to develop a comprehensive roadmap for a ceasefire.
He warned that failure to confront Israel would “further destabilize the situation and ensure no security for any side.”
The proposal and discussions were adopted by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as part of an emergency program.
