Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, the wife of British royal Prince Harry, has been arrested in Florida, USA, on charges of possessing child sexual abuse materials.
On Friday (November 6), US federal law enforcement officers arrested 82-year-old Thomas Markel near Tampa, Florida.
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, said last month she was "deeply concerned" about allegations against her father that a collection of child sexual abuse images and videos were found at his former home in the Philippines.
Meghan also said that in 2018, a letter containing "disturbing allegations" against her father was sent to London police.
Meghan made the statement after the British newspaper The Sun reported that her half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., had found a collection of such photos and videos at their father's former home in the Philippines. Earlier this week, Thomas Markle Jr. was named as a person of interest in the investigation.
Thomas Markle, a retired director of lighting and photography for television, was absent from Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding due to a long-standing feud and estrangement between father and daughter.
Meghan later said that she had decided to distance herself from her father out of concern for the safety of her children.
