A heartbreaking incident occurred during a training flight in Argentina. An experienced flight instructor committed suicide by jumping from a moving plane in mid-air. In such a sudden situation, a 22-year-old trainee, who overcame panic and landed the plane safely alone, avoided a major accident.
On Tuesday (July 7), the Argentine Public Prosecutor's Office released information about the incident. Although the incident occurred last Saturday.
The name of the deceased instructor is Leandro Andrés Bertazzo (42). He had been serving as a flight instructor for a long time and was quite experienced.
According to local media, Bertazzo was flying with student Rosario in a Cessna 150 model training aircraft. In a statement given to investigators, Rosario said that his instructor suddenly removed his headset from his head and his seatbelt. Then, before opening the plane door, he told the student, "You know what you have to do, go ahead." After that, he jumped out of the moving plane. Later, rescuers searched and recovered his body.
Bertazzo worked at the 'Flying Parrot Cordoba' flying school. Eduardo Alvarez, the director of the institution, said that he was a very lively and cheerful person. The morning of the incident, he had also successfully completed a training flight with another student. So everyone was surprised by his decision.
According to Alvarez, opening the door of a moving plane is very difficult, like opening the door of a fast-moving car. There is no explanation for why he made such a decision with a student next to him.
Although Rosario was initially shocked by the instructor's behavior, he later showed courage. With his limited experience, he maintained control of the plane and was finally able to land safely.
It is worth noting that Leandro worked as a flight instructor for a long time not only in Argentina but also in neighboring Chile and was well known for his professional skills.
