The public tribute to Iran's former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has officially begun. In the meantime, the Grand Mosque in Tehran and the surrounding streets have become crowded.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported that millions of people have gathered in the capital to pay their last respects to the supreme leader. The doors of the Grand Mosque have been opened to make room for them.

Khamenei's coffin is written in Arabic letters - 'صلى الله عليك يا أبا عبد الله'. The Bengali translation of which is - 'May Allah shower mercy on you, Ya Aba Abdullah (O father of Abdullah).'

'Abu Abdullah' is a famous title of Imam Hussein (RA). Iranian Shiites use this phrase during their state or military funerals, mourning ceremonies, or Ashura-related ceremonies. In addition, this phrase is very common in Shiite tradition in the memory of Karbala.

Meanwhile, a large number of red flags were seen in the hands of fans at Ali Khamenei's funeral. Such flags carry a special meaning in his burial process.

The country's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned of a strong response to any attack during the ceremony.

Tehran University researcher Mohammad Eslami said that such flags carry a special meaning in Khamenei's burial process. Through this, fans are calling on the government to avenge the assassination of the supreme leader.

He said, "The fans are calling on the Iranian government to take revenge on those who killed their supreme leader."
